American visa Documentation for the Interview

The documents that are taken to the American consulate interview can be very important to help the consular officer decide whether to approve or deny the visa. In addition, documentation is essential when fighting a visa denial decision that is considered wrong.

Therefore, if you are in the process of applying for a us visa appointment for the first time or trying to obtain an approval after a rejection of a previous request, it is convenient to inform you about what documents to take to the interview at the American embassy. Both mandatory and recommended.

In this article you can find out what are the most common reasons for denying a us visa application, such as a tourist, student, work or exchange visa. This is important because you have to know in advance where the problems may be and present documentation to show evidence that helps to correct them.

In addition, depending on the country in which it applies, what documents to carry, what are the three types of answers that the consular officer can give and what to do if the visa is denied.

Remember that the interview for a visa interview appointment is requested as part of the visa process requested when filling out the DS-160 form, which marks the beginning of it.

How to get US visa?

That is the question that many applicants ask themselves. but there is no answer that can be given with absolute certainty. Each case is a world with its own peculiarities since no person is equal to another.

What is known is that in some countries the denial percentages of visas are higher than in others. However, this should not be taken as an invitation to apply for visas in American consulates other than those of the country in which they usually reside, since for this there are special rules and, in addition, it may not be convenient.

In addition, there are situations that complicate the request for a nonimmigrant visa. For example, when you are waiting for an immigrant visa, that is, for a residence card, also known as a green card.

Statistics tell us how things are and they help us to be informed about what to expect. The United States government publishes each fiscal year how many visas are requested and how many are denied. In addition, in how many cases an approval was finally obtained, despite having been initially denied.

In 2017, the last one on which there are data, embassies and consulates of the United States approved a total of 9,681,913 nonimmigrant visas worldwide. In addition, they did not approve a total of 3,516,581. The main causes of visa denial were, in the following order, the following:

First, the applicant does not prove sufficiently that he has no intention of staying in the United States. It is the cause that is known as 214 (b). In FY2017, a total of 2,624,543 nonimmigrant visas were rejected for this cause.

Second, the application does not meet the requirements of the law known as INA. The most frequent causes are the lack of documents or information or the need for another government agency to review the request. In FY2017, a total of 811,238 applications were rejected for this cause, which is technically known as 221 (g).

Third, for lying to obtain a benefit, in writing or speaking, in what is known in English as misrepresentation and technically as cause 212 (a) (6) (C) (i). In the last fiscal year, 18,114 nonimmigrant visas were rejected for this cause.

Fourth, having previously been illegally in the United States for more than 365 days a total of 15,924 people saw their visa requests rejected. It is the cause of visa denial known as 212 (a) (9) ( B) (i) (II). At this point, it must be taken into account that the punishment of three and ten years applies.

And fifth, having remained in the United States after committing an immigration violation. This cause, which is known as 212 (a) (9) (c), affected 9,551 applicants.

It is very important to keep in mind that during that same period of time, a total of 744,003 applications that were initially denied were finally approved because I can prove with documentary evidence that the cause of denial did not apply or because I can request a waiver, also known as forgiveness, and this one was approved.

Therefore it is evident the importance of the documentation to obtain the approval of the visa and, in the case of being denied, to be able to prove that the denial does not correspond.
