How many types of CCTV exist and what are their characteristics

There are different types of CCTV or CCTV systems, depending on the type of technology used by its components. Here we name your qualities.

When we talk about the types of existing CCTV we mean, basically, types of DVR (Digital Video Recorder) or video recorders. It will be the DVR that conditions what types of cameras can be installed in the circuit and, ultimately, what features it will have.

There are four types of DVRs: analog, TVI / CVI / SDI, pure IP and, finally, those known as hybrids or tríbrides. The characteristics of each of them will be detailed below:

Analog CCTV SECURITY CAMERAS

It is the oldest of the CCTV systems, but that is not why it is in disuse or threatens to disappear in the near future. On the contrary, its characteristics and good performance make it continue to be used for video surveillance tasks.

It usually has 4, 8, 16 or 32 BNC channels and standard (analog) cameras with a resolution of up to 1000 lines are connected to it. It is the DVR that performs the process of digitizing the signal for subsequent storage on the hard disk.

CCTV TVI / CVI / SDI

It is an evolution of the previous CCTV, because its DVR supports both analog cameras and TVI / CVI / DVR cameras. These cameras make footage in high definition as their resolution is up to 2.4 mp.

They have the advantage that it can be used for the installation of these devices, the CCTV wiring, which is perfectly compatible. This achieves significant money savings.
Pure IP CCTV

Its DVRs exclusively support the connection of IP live camera cctv. These send the already encoded signal to the recording equipment, which has the function of performing compression, without which it would be impossible to store such amount of information on the hard disk.

Compression standards are usually MPEG4 H.264 and MJPE. These are intended to make the information obtained by the camera take up as little space as possible so that it can be transported through the cables of a local network or the telephone line.
CCTV hybrids or tríbrids

They are the most complete when it comes to the type of cameras it supports. Your DVR is designed in such a way that, depending on the model, it can support both IP cameras, TVI / CV / SDI or analog.

These digital recorders can receive the signal already encoded and then compress it, or perform compression in case of receiving analog signal. Its installation is ideal when you have the different cameras and the corresponding cables, and you do not want to get rid of this equipment.
The novelty: Turbo HD 4.0

It is advisable to have a DVR that lives up to the expectations you have. As far as HDTVI technology is concerned, this article cannot be closed without mentioning the launch of the fourth revision of Turbo HD technology.
