How to install security cameras at home?

Before it was impossible for an owner to install cctv security cameras in their home without the help of a professional. Nowadays the installation is simpler, since there are multiple equipment and solutions on the market that simplify the procedure.

Prepare the house

Before starting the installation, you must draw a plan of the house. It is essential to choose which areas should be monitored, since controlling each square meter of the house is expensive and ineffective.

Therefore, areas must be prioritized. They must be installed in:

Entrance doors, both main and secondary.
    Windows facing outside.
    Common large spaces
    Access roads
    Terraces, porches ...
    Stairs

Once the locations are distributed, check that there are no cameras blocked by objects, doors or windows. It's about getting the best visibility.

Once the planning is finished, you can buy the right kit for the house. It is possible to buy the components separately, but generally you get a better price with the purchase of the complete kit.

The cctv system must be composed of at least 1 to 3 cameras, a digital video recorder (DVR), connection cables and power cables.

Basic house security: 2 or 3 outdoor cameras and a DVR with at least three days of recording.
Security for special surveillance of the area: 1 to 3 wireless indoor cameras that conveniently cover the area, the video can be transmitted directly to a computer.

There are also multiple types of cameras, and each has its advantages and disadvantages:

Wireless or cable: The wireless ones are easy to install and there is no need to make holes to pass cables, but when they are far from the receiver the image quality begins to diminish. Cable are recommended for a large area.
Indoor or outdoor: Indoor cameras do not support rainwater, and special precautions are necessary with the rest of the installation. The outdoor ones can be placed inside, but it is an unnecessary expense.
Motion sensor: Only record image when the sensor detects motion. They have a higher cost, but save energy and recording space.
Remote viewing: High-end cameras have the option to view the camera in real time through the phone or computer, anywhere in the world. In addition, it is possible to review the recordings.

How to install a closed cctv

For a closed circuit surveillance system, a recording device (DVR) and a monitor that allows viewing the recordings are necessary. The monitor can be a computer screen or a television (for which a closed circuit TV would have to be installed).

DVRs are characterized primarily by the ability to record.

Video surveillance kit: normally included in the DVR
Analog or digital recorders: Analogs use video tapes instead of hard drives used by digital ones.
